Golf Courses Close to the Sandhills

There are two Donald Ross designed municipal courses less than an hour's drive from Pinehurst. The Sanford Municipal Course was designed in 1934. Photos

Pinecrest Country Club was designed by Ross in 1940. It is in Lumberton.

Ross also redesigned what is now the back nine of Richmond Pines Country Club just down the road in Rockingham.

Mike Stranz did another one of his quixotic masterpieces in Asheboro. It's called Tot Hill. It is ranked as one of the top ten most difficult courses in the U.S. It also features some of the most interesting holes you will ever see.

Anderson Creek is outside of Pinehurst. This Davis Love III course has received good reviews.

Keith Hills Golf Club has two Maples courses in Buie's Creek. One by Ellis and one by Dan. Both are good courses.

Ellis Maples also designed Quail Ridge in Sanford. Another good course.

Bayonet near Raeford is a public course that is no frills but pretty fun and reasonabaly priced.
